I'm a Slut

Yes, I will admit it. Although I try hard not to just give it away, sometimes I'm just taken.

I was brought up to not be a slut. To do the 'right thing' and wait. Wait till I'm swept off my feet for just the right time. Brought up to 'Save Myself'. And I wasn't even brought up in a religious family. In fact I developed that attitude more by what I saw on TV and in Movies. The one that waited for their true love was the one that ended up happy and lived happily forever after.

At first it was just a little something given. You know, just to make the relationship happy, maybe to help it grow. Then when your peers teach you that it is not the right thing to do, and you even repeat that back to them and to others, you feel bad for having given a little. And god forbid if you gave up more then a little.

But I became a vet. The vet world was one place where giving away what you can say and do for free was idolized. James Herriot anyone?

So that first free nail trim that I gave away when the pet was under was just like a little peck on the cheek. Soon after we find out that isn't fully appreciated by the masses. It may be expected though! The masses want or may even expect us to just give it up.

Becoming a business owner I soon found out that my plumber never gave away a free service. My mechanic likewise. I found out my employees liked to be paid. I found out the government wanted their take. My suppliers wanted me to pay for what I got from them.

But, but, but James Herriot rarely seemed to collect monies. But what did he get? Cookies, cheese, and just about anything someone could afford to give him

So, I am a slut. Bring me sunshine and a little treat - even if just for my employees I'm gonna do more for you. Gotta say I generally won't tell you what I may be doing for you but I do know where I'm giving services away.

Moral of the story - be good to your vet, be nice to them, remember them when you've just made a favorite recipe and they will remember and likely make it well worth your while in your time of need. Many of us are sluts.

  1. I'll make an extra pie next time I'm making one and drop it in :-)... along with the bottled herpes I need them to dispose of.

  2. Huge slut here. The problem is, people downright expect us to be sluts and get pissed when we aren't. "Tease!" Ugh... Of course, it doesn't help when the clinic owner encourages such behavior and then bitches that we have no money. Wonder why...
